1. MSI GV62 Laptop

Powerful combination of CPU and GPU

MSI GV62

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: MSI GV62 8RD-275US
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8300H
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti 4G
  • Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD
  • Battery Life: 5 hours

The MSI has managed to make an affordable machine without compromising on the features. It has got almost everything that a gamer would be needing, a robust processor and graphics card, a full HD display, and different types of port selection.

Performance:

With Intel Core i5-8300H ‘Coffee Lake-H’ processor, the MSI GV62 is capable of performing everyday tasks as well as some demanding tasks like editing videos and photos. And, the 8GB RAM is more than sufficient for web browsing and gaming.

When it comes to gaming graphics, the MSI GV62 features a powerful NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti chipset. This graphics configuration makes playing most of the AAA titles easier, but on the lowered settings obviously. You won’t be able to enjoy the VR gaming with this laptop, but you can’t ask for that under $800.

Portability:

The MSI tried hard to perfect the portability with this laptop. With 4.8 pounds weight and 1.06 thickness, this laptop is more on a portable side. This makes it easier to use it on the commute or carry it anywhere.

The MSI 6V62’s battery could only hold up to 4 hours maximum, but that is common for gaming laptops. You can get a little more juice if you use it on a power saver or lowered brightness. The battery of gaming laptops is designed in such a way to get you to the next destination but not for use all the way.

Display:

The MSI GV62 comes with 1 5.6 inches IPS display, that has wider viewing angles. With 1920 x 1080 resolution, the image is sharp and bright. However, the color gamut might be disappointing for the extreme gamers, but nothing too overwhelming for entry-level and medium tier gamers.

Other Considerations:

The right side of the MSI GV62 accommodates a USB 2.0 port and an SD card slot. While the left flank of the laptop holds a Kensington lock, two USB 3.1 ports, an HDMI output, a USB Type C port, headphone out and in jacks, and a mini display port. This port selection is enough to connect essential peripherals needed for work or gaming.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Powerful processor
  • Robust gaming performance

Cons

  • Middling battery life

Bottom Line

Surprisingly, the MSI GV62 has a perfect set of specifications that anyone would need in a budget laptop. The competent graphics card and the relatively new processor speak in favor of this laptop.

2. Dell Inspiron 15-7000 Laptop

Great for VR gaming

Dell Inspiron 15-7000

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Dell Inspiron i7567
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7300HQ
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB Graphics
  • Storage: 1 TB Hybrid HDD
  • Battery Life: 7 hours

The reason why this laptop has made into our “best laptops under $800” list is the perfect mix and match of hardware. It has got a robust processor, fairly good RAM, and long battery life, which makes it “add-to-cart” worthy.

Performance:

The Intel Core i5-7300H, along with 8GB RAM, is a power combo for the performance. Be it multitasking, everyday work or school tasks or demanding video and image editing, the Dell Inspiron 15 has got you covered.

With powerpack Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics, the Dell Inspiron 15 can pretty much handle all the new AAA titles. The laptop was able to render 52 frames per second while playing Fortnite at 1080p, which is impressive. However, in heavier games like Assassin’s Creed, you might want to try lowering the graphics settings.

Portability:

The battery of the Dell Inspiron 15-7000 performed really well under the tests. It lasted for 6 hours while web browsing and around 10 hours with just video playback on the loop. Even while gaming, the laptop lasted for 4 hours 30 mins, which is more than enough for a gaming laptop.

Display:

At 15.6 inches, the Dell Inspiron 15-7000 comes with a full HD display with maximum resolution 1920 x 1080. The display might be a little less sharp, but you get enough brightness, i.e., 323 nits to make it up for the sharpness. The display won’t bother you for everyday use as well as for gaming.

Other Considerations:

Connectivity plays an important role in a laptop. And, Dell Inspiron 15 comes with plenty of ports to give a better gaming experience. This variety includes 3 x USB A ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, USB C port with thunderbolt support, and a micro SD card reader.

Pros

  • Very reasonable price
  • Solid performance
  • Attractive design

Cons

  • Display colors are a little dull.

Bottom Line

What makes the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 worthy? Absolutely everything (almost!). It can serve as a desktop replacement as it has got a powerful performance for editing, gaming as well as daily tasks. But, be aware the display is a little dull, it might be a deal-breaker for some.

3. Dell G3 Laptop

Best for connectivity

Dell G3

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Dell G3
  • Processor: Intel Core i5
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 1050Ti 4GB
  • Storage: 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
  • Battery Life: 7 hours

A lot of factors add up to make the Dell G3 a badass gaming machine. If you start counting on fingertips, the powerful processor, up to 7 hours of battery life, a wide variety of ports, and phenomenal performance are few of the features that this laptop holds.

Performance:

With the Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB RAM, you can expect some amazing things from this laptop. The Dell G3 is capable of running 30+ tabs, with few of them on 1080p video playback. Even after that, there was slowness or lag experienced.

Despite being cheap in price, the Dell G3 didn’t come with cheap graphics. It features one of the powerful entry-level graphics cards by Nvidia, Nvidia GTX 1050Ti. It can run games like Hitman, Tomb Raider, and even GTA V smoothly.

Portability:

With 4.5 pounds weight and 14.96 x 10.16 x 0.89 inches dimensions, the Dell G3 is a slimmer and lightweight option out of most of the competitors. It is truly a travel buddy, so slip it in your bag or hold it in your hands; you can never go wrong with this one.

When I say it is made for traveling, I meant it battery wise too. The Dell G3 has a decent battery life; it lasted for 6 hours 45 mins on medium brightness during web surfing over WiFi. It has outdone most of the competitors’ battery life, that too being a gaming laptop.

Display:

Dell G3 comes with a wide 15.6 FHD Display, which is not that surprising for laptops at such price. However, the colors are dull and washed off, so if you are heavily into streaming, it might be a concern for you. On the brighter side, the Dell G3 paid off good when it comes to brightness. The display was bright enough for outdoor setups or even direct sunlight.

Other Considerations:

A good gaming laptop houses sufficient ports to attach the peripherals essential for gaming. And, the Dell G3 doesn’t disappoint in that department. It comes with a USB type C port, an HDMI port, 1 x USB 3.1 port, an audio jack, a power jack, and an Ethernet port on the left side of the chassis. On the right side, there are 2 x USB 2.0 ports, an SD Card slot, and a lock slot.

Pros

  • Outstanding battery life
  • Strong processor
  • Great graphics for value

Cons

  • Average display

Bottom Line

Dell G3 would be hard to pass mainly because of its great gaming performance, long battery life, and affordability. But, only if you are ready to compromise with a dull display.

4. Acer Aspire 7 Laptop

Best for AAA titles

Acer Aspire 7

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Acer A715-41G-R7X4
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3550H
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
  • Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
  • Battery Life: 4 hours 50 mins

From the latest generation hardware to Full HD display, the Acer Aspire 7 is one of the finest laptops under budget. However, there is only a little flaw that might be bothersome for some.

Performance:

Featuring an AMD processor, AMD Ryzen 5 3550H to be precise, with an 8GB RAM, you can expect pretty things from this laptop. Whether it is any heavy educational application or a video editing software like Photoshop, Acer Aspire 7 can take any processor-intensive task. Also, the multitasking was buttery smooth.

The Acer Aspire 7 can be safely termed as an entry-level gaming laptop. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 can pretty much run games from Pubg and Fortnite to the AAA titles. However, make sure you keep the settings at medium when playing heavy games.

Portability:

The best way to judge the battery life of a laptop is by putting it onto a video playback loop. And, the Acer Aspire 7 did a fairly good job with video streaming; it lasted for 4 hours 30 mins with a little bit of browser surfing on 50% of brightness. The charging also took around 2 hours to complete, which, to be honest, is not bad.

Display:

The Acer Aspire 7 has a 15.6 inches thin-bezel display. Moreover, the IPS display is Full HD, which actually shows off. The viewing angles are actually great too, that means you don’t have to strain your back or neck while watching a movie. However, it would have been a 10/10 for display, if Acer worked a little more on the brightness.

Other Considerations:

Acer Aspire 7 comes with a wide range of ports. The port selection consists of a Type C port (my absolute favorite!), 2 x USB 3.2 ports, USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, Kensington lock, and LAN. This laptop has pretty much every port that you’ll be needing for gaming purposes.

Be ready to deal with heat emissions with Acer Aspire 7. This laptop gets extremely hot when used for prolonged use, especially while gaming. But, you can control that with a cooling pad, so not that big of a deal.

Pros

  • Decent Performance
  • Sturdy build quality
  • Excellent Graphics

Cons

  • Runs hot

Bottom Line

The Acer Aspire 7 is pretty much what you would expect from a laptop under $800. It has a good IPS display, decent gaming performance, and a fairly new processor to make your everyday tasks as well as gaming worthwhile.

5. Asus FX503VD Laptop

Perfect for mid-tier gaming

Asus FX503VD

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Asus FX503VD-EH73
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad-Core
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1050 4GB
  • Storage: 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
  • Battery Life: 5 hours

Looking for a laptop that can handle mid-level gaming? Look no further. Asus FX503VD has all the specifications that you’ll be needing for gaming, be it a snappy processor or an impressive graphics card.

Performance:

Undoubtedly, the Intel Core i7 Quad-Core processor tagged along with 8GB RAM is a powerpack itself. It makes gaming as well as daily usage a lot smoother as compared to other competitors. Plenty of tabs with some photoshop, the Asus FX503VD still didn’t budge.

In the pool full of entry-level gaming laptops under $800, we have a winner here as Asus FX503VD, as it can be safely termed as a mid-level gaming machine. You can easily play games on high graphics settings with this laptop. However, if you want the best performance, it is recommended to turn off all the background processes.

Portability:

Let’s put it on the table; it is extremely hard to integrate a long-lasting battery along with the gaming hardware considering the design constraints. So, one of the features has to be compromised. And here, the battery life has to suffer; it lasts only for 4 hours on medium usage. The statistics will drop while gaming.

Display:

This Asus machine has a wide 15.6″ screen with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The display is also anti-glare, which is helpful while gaming for long hours so that you can even play at mid-brightness. Also, the viewing angles are quite impressive; it will make the watch party a success with friends.

Other Considerations:

The Asus FX503VD houses most of the ports on the left side that includes 2 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, LAN port, audio input/output jack, and power input. While on the right side, there is a USB 2.0 port and a MicroSD slot. Not going to lie, but I would have enjoyed a USB Type C or thunderbolt for this gaming machine.

Pros

  • Excellent for mid-range gaming
  • Amazing FHD display
  • Attractive design

Cons

  • No Type-C port

Bottom Line

Asus FX503VD has a perfect blend of features when it comes to gaming output and overall performance. However, the lack of Type C port made me a little disappointed, but if you are ready to pull off without that, it is not a bad deal.

6. Microsoft Surface DAJ-00041 Laptop

Best choice for office

Microsoft Surface DAJ-00041

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Microsoft Surface DAJ-00041
  • Processor: Intel Core i7
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Battery Life: 9 hours

Finding a laptop that is portable yet professional looking when pulled out on an office desk is quite a tough job. But, the Microsoft Surface makes that easier while not compromising on the performance and display.

Performance:

It is safe to say that the Microsoft Surface will work smoothly on its 1000th day as it does on the first day of use, thanks to the sandboxed environment. Moreover, the Intel Core i7 also adds up to the outstanding performance. On top of that, 8GB RAM makes multitasking easier.

If you are into gaming, I will suggest you stay away from this laptop. The laptop is mainly designed for professionals and academic purposes. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t play light Windows Store games when you are bored in a class.

Portability:

When I said that this laptop is perfect for professionals, I meant it. It has enough juice on a single charge to last you the whole day. With video playback on 1080p, the Microsoft Surface lasted for 8 hours 45 mins, and you can get more out of it if you lower the brightness or use it on power saver mode.

Display:

This laptop features a 13.5″ display, though the screen is smaller, it is great if you want a portable option for work. It has a max resolution of 2256 x 1504, which makes the display vibrant and bright. However, the unusual ratio here is basically because the aspect ratio is 3:2.

Other Considerations:

Talking about the ports, the Microsoft Surface DAJ-00041 has limited ports; that is one of the reasons why this laptop is quite slimmer. It holds 1 x USB 3.0 port, Mini Display port, surface connect power, and a docking port. Yes, that’s it! Though a type C port would have made this laptop a little more attractive.

Pros

  • Very attractive design
  • Extremely portable
  • Amazing display
  • Good performance for value

Cons

  • Limited ports

Bottom Line

Microsoft is known for making attractive and professional-looking laptops, and this Microsoft SUrface laptop doesn’t deviate from that lineup. It is a smart laptop that also happens to give a decent performance for the price.

7. Asus TUF FX504 Laptop

The best performance-to-value

Asus TUF FX504

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Asus TUF FX504GD-NH51
  • Processor: 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8300H
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1050
  • Storage: 256GB M.2 SSD
  • Battery Life: 4 hours

Solid gaming performance with Nvidia GPU and Intel Core i5 processor is obvious for the Asus TUF FX504. Whether you use it for school, work, or let alone gaming, it is a powerpack.

Performance:

Featuring Intel Core i5-8300H Processor along with 8GB RAM, the Asus TUF FX504 gave an amazing performance, undoubtedly. You can easily multitask with 20+ browser tabs and streaming without any lag. However, a little delay was noticed when booted.

With Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 GPU with 2GB of VRAM, you won’t be able to play the most extensive games. However, you can get through most of the titles at medium settings. Some of the games that you can easily enjoy with these graphics specifications include FIFA, GTA V, and Battlefield 1.

Portability:

When it comes to weight and thickness, the Asus TUF FX 504 is middling among other competitors. It has a total weight of 5.07 pounds and 0.98 inches in thickness. I won’t say it’s the lightest and slimmest laptop around, but it is not a matter of breaking the deal.

If you are thinking of taking the Asus TUF FX504 for a long run, I would suggest thinking again. It only lasted for 3 hours 45 mins while streaming and browsing the web at 160 nits brightness. These battery metrics are low, but it is quite usual for a gaming laptop to have average battery life.

Display:

You can’t get everything on the point within $800 now, can you? The reason Asus made this laptop affordable is by giving a fairly average display. Even though this laptop displays a 15.6″ full HD display, it still lacks colors, i.e., 66% sRGB color gamut. However, the display had some sharpness that didn’t make us lose interest in the display overall.

Other Considerations:

Almost all the ports for this laptop are located on the left side of the laptop. And, that includes a power jack, an HDMI output, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet jack, and a headphone jack. The right side only houses a Kensington lock.

Pros

  • Excellent gaming performance for the price
  • Doesn’t heat up
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Below-average battery life

Bottom Line

With a solid gaming performance under $800 price tag along with an average display, I am sure that you’ll find your happy medium with Asus FX504. This laptop is a great deal if you want to use it for gaming at home mainly; otherwise, be ready to find a socket after every couple of hours.

8. Asus Vivobook K570UD Laptop

Long lasting battery life

Asus Vivobook K570UD

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: ASUS VivoBook K570UD-ES54
  • Processor: Intel i5-8250U
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForceGTX 1050 2GB
  • Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Battery Life: 9 hours

Whether it is casual gaming, entertainment purposes, or office needs, the Asus Vivobook F570UD aces in every department. The long battery life, bright display, and powerful processor are some of the amazing features that it holds.

Performance:

Inside the beautiful chassis, the Asus Vivobook K570UD holds a new 8th generation Intel Core i5 along with 8GB RAM with the base clock speed of 1.8 GHz and the max clock speed of 4.0 GHz. These specifications make this laptop perfect for both heavy as well as everyday tasks. Moreover, this laptop comes with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050, so if you want to take gaming breaks while working, it won’t be disappointing.

Portability:

The battery of Asus Vivobook K570ud can last up to 9 hours with a single charge. And, when I said 9 hours, I meant with video streaming, working with spreadsheets or documents, and a little bit of gaming here and there. Also, this laptop comes with fast charging technology, which means you don’t have to wait for hours to get it fully charged.

Display:

The display of the Asus Vivobook K570UD is undoubtedly phenomenal. It comes with 15.6 inches FHD display that is developed with IPS technology, which means you’ll enjoy gaming on this big screen a little more. Moreover, the 1920 x 1080 resolution makes the streaming experience worthwhile as the images are sharper and brighter.

Other Considerations:

Both sides of the Asus Vivobook K570ud are packed with all the necessary ports that you’ll be needed for everyday use. The left side of the laptop houses 2 x USB 2.0 ports along with 3.5mm audio jack and Kensington lock. At the same time, the right flank of the laptop contains USB Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port, Micro SD card reader, HDMI, Power adapter, and an RJ45 slot.

Pros

  • Bright and crisp display
  • Lots of useful ports
  • Portable and sleek

Cons

  • Not for high-end gaming

Bottom Line

If your demands are somewhere between having a laptop that fulfills casual gaming needs while not compromising on the general day-to-day activities, you can’t go wrong with Asus Vivobook F570UD. Being under $800, this laptop serves far better with a new generation processor and bright, crisp display.

9. Acer Nitro 5 Laptop

Attractive Design

Acer Nitro 5

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: Acer AN515-54-8GB-256GB
  • Processor: 9th Gen Intel Quad Core i5-9300H
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
  • Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD
  • Battery Life: 7 hours

Acer Nitro 5 is a dream for every gamer who is into budget gaming. It features a powerful processor and decent GPU, to light up your work breaks with light to medium gaming.

Performance:

Putting Acer Nitro 5 to the absolute tough test with 25 tabs running, including multiple Youtube videos at 1080p, the laptop still refused to budge. All credit goes to 9th Gen Intel Quad Core i5-9300H paired with 8GB RAM.

The Acer Nitro 5 comes with NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1650, which provides 1.7 times higher performance than the GTX 1050 (featured in other budget laptops). When tested, the Acer Nitro 5 worked smoothly with Warframe, Hitman, and Tomb Raider. Expecting outstanding graphics performance from this laptop won’t disappoint you.

Portability:

Acer won’t be winning any rewards for design and portability with this laptop, but it is not that bad. The Acer Nitro 5 weighs 5.07 pounds, which is on a little heavier side, but you won’t be straining your arm or back with this. Also, the dimensions prove that it is bulky as well as it measures 14.31 x 10.04 x 0.96 inches.

Acer’s claims for Nitro 5’s battery are quite high, i.e., 7 hours. And, the claims hold right in reality too (almost!). This laptop lasts for 6 hours with medium usage on 50% brightness, which is quite impressive. You can get more out of this laptop when used on a power saver.

Display:

Acer Nitro 5 has a wide 15.6 inches backlit IPS display, with 1920 x 1080 resolution. However, the bezels around the screen can be a little annoying for some people. The screen itself is quite amazing with bright and crisp images.

Other Considerations:

Yet another feature that is likable about Acer Nitro 5 is its wide selection of ports. On the left side of the laptop, there is a Kensington lock, an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, a USB type C port, and an RJ45 Ethernet port. While on the right side, this laptop features a DC charging port, a USB 2.0 port, and an audio input/output jack.

Pros

  • Long-lasting battery life
  • Decent gaming performance
  • Plenty of ports

Cons

  • Size is a little bulky.

Bottom Line

The laptop is the best choice if you want to do some medium-level gaming but under a budget. The bulky outlook of this laptop might not attract you at first sight. However, the powerful GTX 1650 makes up for that loss.

10. MSI GL 62M Laptop

Good for multitasking

MSI GL 62M

Key Features

  • Laptop Name: MSI GL62M 7RDX-1096
  • Processor: Intel i7-7700HQ
  • RAM: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1050 2G Graphics
  • Storage: 1TB Hard Drive
  • Battery Life: 4 hours

You can’t ask for more with this MSI GL 62M. It has got everything that could ask for under the label of $800, from fast processor and RAM to fairly good graphics and display; this laptop has got it all.

Performance:

With the Intel Core i7 processor, the MSI GL 62M pays off really well in terms of processing. The processor has a basic clock speed of 2.8GHz, and it can go up to 3.4GHz, which can be really handy with gaming. Also, the 16GB RAM is the highest we have in the “best laptops under $800” list, so expect a little more from this.

It is one of the earliest laptops that featured the Nvidia’s new entry-level graphics card named as GeForce GTX 1050 2G. This graphics card has proven to provide buttery-smooth frame rates for games like GTA V, Need for speed, and Resident evil.

Portability:

MSI GL 62M is a portable machine overall. It has a weight of 5.2 pounds, that can easily be carried around. And, the dimensions, i.e., 10.23 x 15.07 x 1.06 inches, are just right to make it snuggle in your backpack.

MSI GL 62M for a desktop replacement? Look somewhere else! It only lasted for 4 hours of normal use, which is quite usual for a gaming machine, but we have got better even for the given range. Gaming laptops are made in such a way to make you move between destinations, not for long trips after all.

Display:

MSI GL 62M has a matte Full HD display that measures 15.6 inches. As much as the matte effect reduces the reflection, it also makes the screen hazy and dull, so keep that mind. Moreover, the viewing angles are great too, which means you can enjoy the movies comfortably in your bed.

Other Considerations:

The left flank of MSI GL62M holds one Type C port, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, a mini display port, and an audio jack. And, on the left side, you get a USB 2.0 port, SD card slot, and a power jack. It also features an RJ45 port for faster internet connection through cable.

Pros

  • Wide range of ports including Type C
  • Great display
  • 16 GB RAM

Cons

  • Short battery life

Bottom Line

Being under $800, the MSI GL 62M has the best pack of features you can get for gaming. It can be a good desktop replacement as it has a robust processor paired with 16GB RAM and impressive display, but all I wish for is a longer battery life to carry it on the go.
