Silverfoot Dog Collar and Silverfoot Leash Review

March 8th, 2008 · No Comments · Dogs, Gear, Review

On a fine winter day in December of 2004, I purchased a Silverfoot Dog Collar and a Silverfoot 6′ leash for my puppy, K2, after she had outgrown her puppysilverfoot1.jpg-size cheap-o collar. I was dismayed at the $13.50 price of the collar and $23.00 price of the leash, but my wife was fascinated by the “fluttercup blue” pattern, believing it would help people reference K2 appropriately as “she.” I had also failed to understand the importance of having a matching collar and leash. Well, fast-forward to now… I no longer have an issue with the price of the collar or leash. The collar and leash have survived 3 years and 3 months of all that mountain-dogs do: running, hiking, skiing, swimming, lounging, pulling, barking… dodging of ticket-wielding “dog cops”, rafting, eating, and the occasional rolling in cow (and other animals’) patties are just a few of trials the collar and leash have survived at the mercy of K2.

How has her collar faired after 39 months of continuous wear? The color has faded only marginally (though still quite aesthetically pleasing); there is not a single fray anywhere along the webbing; the stitching shows no sign of potential failure; the metal leash attachment/tag holder is pristine; the plastic buckle is absolutely unfazed!

What about the leash? The leash color is slightly less faded than the collar. There is slight fraying along the edges of the webbing about 1/3 from the dog-end of the leash; this part does drag along the ground after K2 is tired and returning home. The stitching is immaculate, with no loose ends. The metal clasp has only slight wear, but shows no sign that there is any loss of integrity; further the clasp has never inadvertently come undone, as I have had happen with other attachment systems. The plastic loop at the end of the handle remains undamaged.

Would I spend another $13.50 and $23.00 for this collar and leash? Yes, without hesitation. However, I see no sign that I will ever need to. The Silverfoot 4915 1″ Medium Dog Collar and 4955 6′ leash are available directly from Silvercup on the web or at a variety of local dealers. K2 is lying at my feet, groaning. I guess it’s time to go skiing. Please let me know if you have any questions.
